This was before my time, but a very interesting picture!!!!!!! I’m always interested in Colon since it was my birth place.
My father was at the High School Prom in Colon( he was a junior) when the authorities showed up and loaded all able bodied young men into trucks.He helped fight the fire in a tuxedo according to his recollections.He said they pumped saltwater on the fire and the entire place was coated with smoky salt inches thick.
